The Goth fashion style is what is because of its youthful proponents' flair and adventurous spirit. But are all Goths youths? Not by any means.
There is a large number of older folks who are still practicing Goths. The odds are that you are reading this because you are an older Goth looking for a way to balance that Goth spirit with some maturity when you dress. If that’s you, here are some tips to help you achieve that look.
Boots have always been a staple in the Goth fashion subculture and one that you might not be willing to drop any time soon. Well, you don't need to. What you need to do is to choose something that is less wild.
Say something with fewer straps and such. You are looking to achieve a cooler look without eliminating the Goth vibes. Working with boots that don’t look like something from a Star Wars movie is a great idea.
Dyeing your hair in bright colors won't make you look good enough to fit in with the twenty-something-year-olds, and you'd stick out like a sore thumb with the older guys.
What to do? If you must dye your hair (we believe you can do without it), opt for darker colors that give you a more reserved, unique look. Avoid bright colors by all means.
Now here is one tip that some folks might not agree with. The argument is that you could still have some crazy hairstyle in your 40's and 50’s (and even older) and look good while at it. We don't agree, though. There is a time and season for everything, so a lot of the stuff that you got away within your twenties won't fly in your thirties and so on. Avoid any of the crazier hairstyles. You are much older, so opt for something cooler and less wild.
We'd advise that you pay attention to the makeup you apply when trying to pull off a mature Goth look. You might avoid it altogether if you can. However, if you must use some makeup, you might want to apply less. You might also want to leave out the crazier colors and styles for the younger guys. That's not to say that you can’t get adventurous with makeup. The idea is for you to strive for a toned application that is attractive without being heavy.
You’d never go wrong with the right hat because hats have a way of lending elegance and style to any look. The trick is to get one that matches the upper part of the outfit you have on. You also want to avoid using brighter colors as hats: the darker the hat, the better.
There you have it! Above are some amazing fashion tips for a more mature gothic look. Gothic fashion is all about bringing out the best in you. Thankfully, you can still move around in a Gothic ensemble that looks mature and Gothic at the same time. All you need to do is to use the tips we just described here.
