5 Ways to Decorate Your Home in the Gothic Style

5 Ways to Decorate Your Home in the Gothic Style

Posted by Skull Flow on

You could make your home reflect Gothic culture if you are tired of the more modern interior designs. All you would need to do is to make some minor adjustments and incorporate the right elements. This article will describe some ways to bring some Goth feel to your home.

Black is the regular go-to color for most Goths. It is also the natural choice when looking to make your home look more Gothic. There is a caveat, though. Too much black would be overkill, like excess condiments in a broth.

Hence, unless you are looking to create an all-black mansion from a horror flick, you might want to complement the black colors with other rich colors like navy blue, emerald green, dark brown, and burgundy, among others—spice up the colors with some brick and wood.

The Gothic style is a complicated one, so your home should reflect that too. One of the best ways to do that is via the fabrics that you use.

How do you achieve that? Simple stick with materials like silk, velvet, and satin. These materials are great for curtains, upholstery and your bedding and pillows. Dark colors are the preferred choice to pull off that effect.

Drapery Designs

Depending on the Gothic style you are trying to pull off, you might want to settle for heavy drape panels because of the majestic allure that they exude.

Long draperies also have a way of lending your home elegance, so get long curtain panels with some great-looking tiebacks and tassels for effect.

You cannot do without the right accessories when looking to spice up your home’s Gothic style. So you could never go wrong with ornate pieces that have some intricate embellishments. We advise that you opt for accessories made from heavy wrought iron, wood and stone-like wrought-iron candle holders, for instance. Another way to go is to get ornate stone statues and expansive rugs. Once you can place them in the right positions around your home, you'd be wowed by the effect.

Now, this might require that you sacrifice some of the lightning methods that you are familiar with because you'd be using candles as lighting. There is still a way around that. In this case, you might opt to use candles for their decorative effect if you are not comfortable using them as the primary light source. In the latter case, try using light bulbs that work as candles by adding them to a wrought-iron chandelier. That way, you can get the best of both worlds.

Making your home a Goth haven is as simple as applying any of the tips we described here. The best part is that they are all easy and require you to do any major remodeling of your home.
